Panic at the Disco Breaking Up

Famous band Panic at the Disco is supossidely breaking up. Ryan Ross and Jon Walker, members of the band, are pursuing other musical interests.

Love them or hate them - a bit of both for me - former emo heavyweights (Panic! at the Disco) turned power-pop one-offs (Panic at the Disco), have had a good and fairly long run at the pop charts. However, that run looks to now be at an end. Sort of.

In a short message, posted earlier today on the band’s website, the band announced that both Ryan Ross (lead guitar) and Jon Walker (bass) would be leaving the band “to embark on a musical excursion of their own.” The post doesn’t give too many more details, but does say that the band is still, “excited for the future,” and that we “should be too.” So there’s that.

Now, while both Jon and Ryan are taking off, that doesn’t mean the demise of the band either. As of now, at least, it appears that the other two band members, Brendon (vocals) and Spencer (drums) will carry the band name on. However, as Ryan was thought to be the “creative mastermind” behind the group, it doesn’t bode well for future Panic at the Disco releases.

That said, I am, actually, curious as to what Ryan and Jon’s new project will sound like. No word yet, of course, but if the new group produces anything as good as “Nine in the Afternoon“, well then, you can count on me as a fan. Great song.
